Volkswagen has successfully concluded bookings for the first batch of its high-performance hatchback, the Golf GTI, launched last month. The company initially planned to offer 250 units, but scaled down the first phase to 150 units, all of which have now been fully reserved.

The Golf GTI, previously available only in global markets, has officially entered the Indian market with limited allocations. The decision to restrict the first batch to 150 units was strategic, and the overwhelming response has prompted Volkswagen to consider a second batch of 100 units, likely to be introduced by late 2025 or early 2026.

Volkswagen's hot hatchback has garnered significant attention from auto enthusiasts despite its steep on-road Mumbai price of Rs 63.13 lakh. The model is being brought to India as a fully imported unit, appealing to a niche segment that values performance and exclusivity.

The Golf GTI is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, generating 261 bhp and 370 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Exterior highlights include matrix LED headlamps, a honeycomb front grille, and a dual exhaust system. Buyers can choose between standard 18-inch or optional 19-inch wheels.

The interior features a fully digital instrument display, a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, ambient lighting, and premium fitments tailored for performance-oriented driving.
